In a move to promote sustainability and circular economy, Fraunhofer, Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization, has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani.

The MoUs were signed during the visit of Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany to India. The agreements aim to leverage the complementary strengths of Fraunhofer, IIT Ropar, and BITS Pilani to create a strong value proposition in the fields of sustainability and circular economy.

The partnership between Fraunhofer and IIT Ropar will focus on collaborative research and development, technology demonstration, and technology licensing in areas such as water sustainability, waste management, and renewable energy. The two institutions will also work together to establish a Water Innovation Ecosystem that supports sustainable resource management, smart water infrastructure, and climate-resilient solutions.

The MoU between Fraunhofer and BITS Pilani will focus on areas such as biorefinery, biofuels, and circular economy. The two institutions will work together to develop scalable solutions that address global challenges in resource efficiency, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

“These collaborations are essential for tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges in health, water, energy, and sustainability. Fraunhofer has established itself as a global leader in applied research, and I am confident that our partnership with IIT Ropar and BITS Pilani will drive progress, sustainability, and innovation that will benefit not just our two countries, but the entire world.” said Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut.

The signing of the MoUs marks a milestone in the Indo-German collaboration in the fields of sustainability and circular economy. The partnership between Fraunhofer, IIT Ropar, and BITS Pilani is expected to drive significant impact and create a better future for all.
