Srinagar: In a major crackdown, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police detained five individuals for allegedly smuggling SIM cards to terrorists lodged in different jails.

The detainees, residents of Dawoodpora Anantnag, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa, Bandipora, and Kursu Padshahibagh, Srinagar, are accused of conspiring with anti-national elements to procure and transport SIM cards inside the Central Jail premises.

According to the police, the SIM cards were used by jail inmates, including those involved in terrorism and narco-terrorism, for various terror-related activities. The CIK had earlier conducted searches inside the Central Jail premises, uncovering evidence of the suspects’ involvement in the smuggling racket.

The police are investigating the role of point-of-sale vendors and telecom service providers who issued the SIM cards. Further arrests are expected in connection with the case.

The detentions are a significant blow to the terror network operating in the region, and the police are working to disrupt the supply chain of SIM cards to terrorists.
