CISF Strengthens Its Ranks with Two New Battalions

New Delhi: In a move to strengthen national security, enhance the capacity of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and create new employment opportunities, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sanctioned the creation of two new battalions for the CISF.
This decision, coupled with the recently approved Mahila Battalion, will increase the CISF’s strength to 2 lakh personnel, marking a significant milestone in the force’s history. The two new battalions, each comprising 1,025 personnel of various ranks, will be led by Senior Commandant level Officers, who will oversee the training, deployment, and operations of the new units.
The additional battalions will cater to the increasing demands on the CISF, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of securing critical infrastructure, including airports, seaports, nuclear power plants, and other vital installations. The new units will create a pool of trained personnel to fulfill immediate induction requirements relating to internal security, enabling the CISF to respond more effectively to emerging threats and challenges.
The new battalions will also improve the CISF’s rapid response capabilities during emergencies, with dedicated reserve units equipped with transport fleets and sufficient weapons. This will enable the force to deploy personnel quickly and effectively in response to critical situations, further enhancing public safety and security.
The CISF’s expansion is expected to reduce stress on existing personnel, translating into improved leave and weekly relief opportunities. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening national security, providing employment opportunities for over 2,000 persons, and improving the welfare of CISF personnel.
The Mahila Battalion, approved recently, marks another significant milestone for the CISF. It will be the first all-women battalion in the force, comprising over 1,000 personnel, and will focus on protecting critical infrastructure, providing VIP security, and inspiring more women to join the CISF.
