Goa Shipyard Lunches Two Indigenous Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard
Panaji: Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), India’s premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) Shipyard, achieved a significant milestone with the launch of two indigenous Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), Amulya and Akshay, for the Indian Coast Guard.
The two vessels, Amulya and Akshay, are designed to protect offshore assets, island territories, and conduct surveillance operations. With a length of 52 meters, a breadth of 8 meters, and a displacement of 320 tonnes, these state-of-the-art FPVs are optimized for speed and maneuverability.
Notably, this is the first time in GSL’s history that two vessels were launched simultaneously using the Shipyard’s State-of-the-Art Ship-Lift System. This feat underscores GSL’s modernization efforts and its commitment to delivering advanced, indigenously built vessels that safeguard the Nation’s Maritime Frontiers.
The launch ceremony was attended by Sanjeev Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Defence Production), and IG H K Sharma, TM, DDG (M&M), among other distinguished guests. Vandana Agrawal launched the vessels amidst the resonant chants of the Atharva Veda.
GSL is constructing a fleet of eight FPVs for the Indian Coast Guard, underscoring its pivotal role in realizing the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in defence production. The shipyard has consistently outperformed its past achievements, embracing cutting-edge technologies and transformative policies to become one of India’s foremost shipbuilders with indigenous capabilities.
“The launch of these two vessels marks a significant milestone in our journey towards self-reliance in defence production,” said Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, CMD, GSL. “We are proud to have designed and constructed these vessels in-house, meeting the specific operational needs of the Indian Coast Guard.”
The launch of Amulya and Akshay reflects India’s growing shipbuilding prowess and GSL’s dedication to driving local economic prosperity, employment, and growth within the ecosystem of MSMEs and local industries supporting GSL.
