India, Sri Lanka Navies Conclude Successful SLINEX 24 Exercise

Visakhapatnam : The Indian and Sri Lankan navies have successfully concluded the bilateral naval exercise SLINEX 24 at Visakhapatnam, reinforcing their commitment to maritime cooperation and interoperability.

The four-day exercise, held from December 17 to 20, featured a range of activities, including joint exercises by Special Forces, gun firings, communication procedures, seamanship, navigation evolutions, and helicopter operations. INS Sumitra, a Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel, and a Special Forces team from the Indian Navy participated alongside SLNS Sayura, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, and an embarked Special Forces team from the Sri Lanka Navy.

SLINEX 24 marked the latest iteration of the exercise series, initiated in 2005, which has been instrumental in promoting interoperability and strengthening maritime ties between India and Sri Lanka. The exercise has contributed significantly to a safe and rule-based maritime domain, aligning with the Government of India’s vision of Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).

The successful conclusion of SLINEX 24 highlights the importance of bilateral cooperation in addressing common maritime challenges, such as piracy, terrorism, and environmental protection. As the Indian Ocean region continues to grow in importance, exercises like SLINEX 24 will remain crucial in promoting regional stability and security, fostering a cooperative and inclusive maritime environment.

The exercise has not only reinforced the bilateral maritime relationship between India and Sri Lanka but has also demonstrated their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
