The Sky’s No Limit: India, US Take Space Cooperation to New Heights

Houston, Texas – In a significant milestone, United States Deputy Secretary Campbell, Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer, and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra convened in Houston to review progress and chart the future course of US-India space cooperation.

As part of their visit to Houston, Finer and Campbell met with representatives from NASA, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and space industry leaders

“We’ve had very high-level engagement over the course of the last several months with the Quad Summit in Delaware, and we are anticipating high-level engagement in the last few weeks of the Biden administration. We are quite confident that we’ll be handing the bilateral relationship off to the incoming Trump team at its strongest possible apex, with key support from stakeholders in industry, in technology, in finance, and defense” said Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell.

Key discussions centered around the upcoming launch of the jointly developed NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar Earth Science (NISAR) satellite in 2025. The delegation also met with two ISRO astronauts training at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, who are set to join a proposed mission to the International Space Station in 2025.

Several key developments are set to take the partnership to the next level, including a joint human spaceflight mission, the completion of a Strategic Framework for Human Spaceflight Cooperation, and the launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) in early 2025.
