India, China Hold Crucial Talks on Border Issues, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to Resume Soon
Beijing, China: India and China took a significant step towards resolving their longstanding border disputes, as the two nations held the 23rd meeting of their Special Representatives (SRs) in Beijing on Wednesday.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi led the delegations from India and China, respectively.
As per statement issued by Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting was held in accordance with the decision taken during the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan.
The SRs reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas and exploring a mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question. The two sides also agreed to implement the latest disengagement agreement in the Western Sector, which has been a major point of contention between the two nations.
Both sides also discussed on resuming the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a key pilgrimage for Indians. The two sides also agreed to share data on trans-border rivers and enhance cross-border cooperation and exchanges.
NSA Ajit Doval invited Wang Yi to visit India at a mutually convenient date to hold the next round of SR meetings. The two sides agreed to continue discussions on outstanding issues.
The meeting was seen as a positive step towards strengthening India-China relations and maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas. The outcome of the meeting is expected to have key implications for India-China relations.
NSA Ajit Doval also called on Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, and discussed issues of mutual interest.
