India Reinforces Commitment to Low-Carbon Industrial Transition at LeadIT Summit

In a significant move to combat climate change, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirti Vardhan Singh, co-chaired the Annual Summit of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) alongside Swedish Minister for Climate and Environment, Romina Pourmokhtari, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
This pivotal event, held on the sidelines of COP29, brought together country and company members to discuss and promote low-carbon industrial transitions aligned with the Paris Agreement.
Singh underscored India’s commitment to advancing the low-carbon transition in industrial sectors, emphasizing the importance of collaborative public-private partnerships and North-South cooperation. He acknowledged the impactful progress made by LeadIT members over the past five years, highlighting the India-Sweden Industry Transition Partnership as a model for international cooperation.
The summit spotlighted the critical role of transforming sectors such as steel and cement, with representatives from countries and companies sharing insights on industrial low-carbon transition strategies and activities. Selvin Hart, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General, urged industries to champion climate commitments and communicate their prerequisites for action.
India has reaffirmed its commitment to a low-carbon industrial future, urging the global community to strengthen its resolve towards this goal. According to Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, transitioning to low-carbon industries is a win-win, as it not only helps meet climate targets but also drives economic growth, creates job opportunities, and builds resilient communities.
