India and Oman Join Forces for Maritime Security Through Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr

The Indian Navy and Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) have successfully concluded their bilateral maritime exercise, Naseem-Al-Bahr, off the coast of Goa from October 13 to 18, 2024. This significant event underscores the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations.

The exercise was conducted in two phases. During the harbour phase, personnel from both navies engaged in professional interactions, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation through Subject Matter Expert Exchanges, planning conferences, sports fixtures, and social engagements.

The sea phase witnessed a range of operations, including gun firings at surface inflatable targets, close-range anti-aircraft firings, manoeuvres, and Replenishment at Sea Approaches. The integral helicopter from INS Trikand conducted cross-deck landings and vertical replenishment with RNOV Al Seeb. Additionally, the Indian Navy’s Dornier aircraft provided Over-the-Horizon Targeting data to participating ships.

Indian Navy Sea Riders embarked on RNOV Al Seeb for a day, further strengthening ties between the two navies. Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr achieved its objectives of enhancing interoperability, fostering mutual understanding, and strengthening cohesion between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman.

This exercise reaffirms India’s commitment to collaborative growth with like-minded nations in the Indian Ocean Region, highlighting the importance of bilateral cooperation in ensuring regional security and stability.

The Indian Navy and Royal Navy of Oman have a long history of cooperation, with Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr being conducted annually since 1993.
