India-USA Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas-2024 Commences in Rajasthan
The 20th edition of the India-USA Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas-2024 began on September 9, 2024, at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. The exercise will be conducted from September 9 to 22, 2024.
This annual exercise, held since 2004, alternates between India and the USA. This edition marks a significant increase in scope and complexity, with a larger troop strength and equipment.
The Indian Army contingent consists of 600 personnel from the RAJPUT Regiment and other arms and services. The US contingent, of similar strength, is represented by the 1-24 Battalion of the Alaska-based 11th Airborne Division of the US Army.
The aim of the joint exercise is to enhance joint military capability in counter-terrorism operations under the United Nations Charter. The exercise will focus on semi-desert environment operations, including tactical drills such as joint response to terrorist actions, joint planning, and combined field training exercises.
Yudh Abhyas will enable both sides to share best practices, develop inter-operability, and foster bonhomie and camaraderie between the two armies. The joint exercise will also enhance defense cooperation, further augmenting bilateral relations between India and the USA.
