UK-India Partnership Set to Soar: Foreign Secretary David Lammy Visits New Delhi

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is traveling to India to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, focusing on technology, climate, and growth. He aims to unlock the full potential of the UK-India partnership, emphasizing economic, domestic, and global security. 

Lammy will hold high-level meetings with the Indian government, climate, and business leaders, pushing for a reset of the partnership, including a Free Trade Agreement to benefit both economies.

UK’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: “India is the emerging superpower of the 21st century, the largest country in the world with 1.4 billion people and one of the fastest growing economies in the world.  

Lammy highlighted India’s significance as an emerging superpower with a growing economy and shared interests with the UK on the green transition, new technologies, economic security, and global security. He emphasized the importance of accelerating action on the climate crisis, partnering on Indian-led global initiatives, and driving forward the clean energy transition.

The Foreign Secretary will also discuss the Living Bridge between the UK and India, representing the 1.7 million people with Indian heritage in the UK, and meet business leaders to encourage innovation, boost trade, and improve livelihoods in both countries. He will hold talks with Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, and reiterate the contribution of British Indians to the UK’s social and economic landscape.

Following his visit to India, Lammy will attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Laos, advancing UK economic partnerships and unveiling new cooperation on climate and health.
